You ring Brian.Brian turns up.
B & R is Brian — one experienced appliance engineer who answers the phone, comes to the house and does the repair himself. Electric cookers and ovens, washing machines, dishwashers, tumble dryers, vacuum cleaners and electrical storage heaters, all makes and models, in your kitchen rather than in a workshop.
- Rated 4.9 on Google — and named by name in review after review.
- Monday to Saturday, 8am – 6pm, closed Sundays. The phone is answered by the man doing the work.
- Repaired in your kitchen, not carted off to a workshop, wherever the fault allows it.
- All makes and models — and a straight answer when a machine is not worth mending.

What gets repaired
Six appliances, one engineer.
Electric cooking, laundry, dishwashing, vacuums and off-peak heating — the domestic electrical appliances a Hertfordshire house actually runs on.

Brian
The man on the other end
Who turns up
One man, one van, and a phone that gets answered.
B & R Electrical Appliance Repairs is a Berkhamsted one-man business. There is no call centre, no booking portal and no rota of subcontractors — you ring, you speak to Brian, and Brian is the person who arrives at the door.
In the words used on the business's own site: “we have been providing a comprehensive electrical appliance repair service for customers across Berkhamsted and surrounding areas for over 25 years... So why replace it when we can repair it for you?” Much of the work still arrives by word of mouth across the town.
Repairs are carried out in the home wherever they can be. Spare parts are sourced from authorised resellers when something needs replacing, and there is a range of common parts carried in the van so a good number of jobs are finished on the first visit.
In their words
“Brian came the day after my phone call, and repaired the dishwasher in no time. He was friendly, professional, efficient and the price quoted was very reasonable. He went out of his way to check that the machine was in good working order and I would not hesitate to recommend him.”

On the job.

Washer and dryer, side by side
A domestic washing machine and tumble dryer installed together in a utility room — the most common pairing Brian is called out to, and the one where a fault in the first is usually blamed on the second.

A control panel mid-cycle
The display on a condenser dryer part way through a programme. Modern dryers report faults through the panel long before they stop working — which is exactly the moment worth ringing about.
Phone call to working machine.
The long version →01
Ring and describe the fault
Call the mobile and say what the appliance is doing — the noise, the error code, the puddle on the floor. Have the make, model and serial number to hand if you can find them; on most machines they are on a sticker inside the door or around the back.
02
A visit is booked
You get a day and a window, not a twelve-hour wait by the door. Berkhamsted, Tring and Hemel Hempstead are on the doorstep, so local calls are often seen quickly.
03
Diagnosis in your kitchen
The appliance is tested and stripped down far enough to find the actual cause rather than the obvious symptom. You get told, in plain English, what has failed and what it would take to put right — including when it is not worth putting right.
04
Repair, or a part on order
If the part is on the van, the job is finished there and then. If it is not, it is ordered from an authorised supplier and a return visit is arranged — and the appliance is checked over properly before it is signed off as working.
Worth reading first
Two things that save you money.
Neither of these needs a call-out, and neither of them is a sales pitch. One of them fixes a fair number of appliances on its own; the other tells you honestly when a machine has had its day.
Where B & R works
Berkhamsted first — then Tring, Hemel Hempstead, Chesham and Aylesbury.
Berkhamsted is home, so anything in the town and the villages around it is a short hop. Beyond that the regular run covers Tring, Hemel Hempstead, Northchurch, Chesham and Aylesbury, and the surrounding Herts and Bucks villages. If you are just outside that, ring and ask rather than assuming the answer is no.
